It took longer than promised, but today my confirmation arrived and I will officially be running the Edinburgh Marathon for the British Heart Foundation. It's a bit too close to Christmas to start any proper training, but come the New Year I will stop drinking and smoking (for January at least), and instead rely on exercise for my kicks. I'm enrolled at the gym so I don't have to brave the snow, and I'm actually looking forward to getting in shape.
Team "Get Fit or Die Trying" met up last week for some tactical chat. We concluded that the controversial "one foot in front of the other" technique was the best one to go for. Encouragingly no one has started training yet but we all seem keen to take it seriously, which will hopefully lead to some big runs in various cities across the UK before the big event.
Watch this space for details of how to sponsor us, and Happy Christmas one and all!

3 people, 1 marathon and 50 000 steps ... One Sunday afternoon in November, we decided to sign up for the Edinburgh Marathon due to take place on 22/05/2011! Each for a different charity - The British Heart Foundation, Children's Holiday Venture and Oxfam. Here is a blog of our blood (hopefully not that much), sweat (oodles) and tears (ok maybe just a few) as we prepare to run 50 000 steps in May 2011

The Second Dobbie on the Run!
So I'm all officially signed up, which is all rather scary! Though I'm excited - I do seem to have decided to do a marathon in the valley (and not the peak) of my fitness, so there is a lot of training to be done!
Many will know I happen to be the second Dobbie on the run - Lottie having completed a marathon last Summer in Norway! I'm hoping she has a few tips to share in addition to the merits of Jaffa Cakes as a post workout snack and Percy Pigs as fuel for race day.
Well anyway, that's probably enough product placement for one day! With the snow continuing to fall, I'm about to head to the Gym for training session numero uno. An experience I haven't had for a fair few months as I'm normally an outside runner. Primarily because of the nicer scenery and general 'airiness' though admittedly for ease as well ... last time I went to my local gym they had replaced all the old equipment with new clunky gear. So clunky in fact, I struggled to get the cross trainer to move an inch (even on the lowest setting) ... yes .... I am that weak ....!
I'm hoping for happier on the spot running this time!
